Terry
Loyd
Lead Guitar, Rhythm Guitar, Slide Guitar, and Vocals

Terry is an AMAZING lead guitarist whose playing leaves the
audience in awe. Other musicians can't believe how Terry
plays Guns n Roses solos note for note every time he
performs. Also Terry's Barracuda and other song effects are
RIGHT on the MONEY! And if you haven't heard him play Crazy
Train you haven't heard it played right!
Terry has been in the Moose band since it's inception,
except for a short sabbatical this year.
People tend to underestimate Terry's abilities, and then he
starts to play, and he leaves them in AWE!
Q: "How'd you learn to play so well Terry?"
A: "I learned to play by trial and error - mostly
error. I went to a lot of Metal Jams at Hot Licks Guitar
Shop. A lot of people were afraid to play the solos so I
jumped on in.
There were a lot of people who could play great guitar riffs
in the middle of the song but when it came to doing a solo,
they didn't know how to apply it."
Terry got his first guitar at Christmas 1978 and started
jamming to Kiss records. Ace Frehley was the first lead
guitarist he was exposed to. Terry first played with other
musicians in 1980 with some kids up the street from him. A
friend of his had a brother who played drums. (Kenny &
Greg) Terry also took Guitar Classes in High School, Potomac
High School, Potomac, Maryland.
July 1988 - Atomic Child Band
1989-93 Terry worked A LOT: "I worked 7 days a week! It
fed my need for toys."
June 1991 - Shot 'Stairway to Heaven' video, over a 14 hours
shooting session, for co-worker who was a Led Zeppelin die
hard. Coincidentally, this video has a Blues Jam that
probably features one of Terry's best performances ever -
because his girlfriend had dumped him the night before.
"I tried to smile in the video, because we had already
rented the equipment etc., we had to go on with the
show."
1992 - 1993 #6 Band with SMUDGE (Dirty Mark) and LandPhil
(Andy) Parker.. "It was the perfect Band
audition. I walked in and they said oh man, you don't even
have to play a note - you are in." They recognized
Terry from his unforgettable Hot Licks Jam Session
performances.
1993 - 1994 Lots of Hot Licks Jam Sessions
Around March 1993 "People started taking notice of me
when I played 'Crazy Train'."
1992-93 Projects with Andy Burke
July 1993 - Mastiff
[with Phil Parker, Andy Burke, John Bream & Robbie
Drinks]. Opened for Kirk
McEwen of 98 Rock fame (Kirk, Mark & Lopez).
1994 - Became the opening band for 'Bad Influence' a band
from St. Mary's Co., MD. Opened for 'Snakebite' band at Hole
in the Wall in Hollywood, MD.
1994 - Still Mastiff with different members. Terry started
working for PEPSI, worked A LOT musically. Terry jammed with
Andy Burke in Hughesville. "That was when Metal was
either Slayer or Soundgarden.
No one wanted to hear Black Sabbath or 80's Metal."
Then he got
laid off and recorded a single with Andy Burke -'The Final
Hours' [The lyrics are similar to the 9-11 attack - kind of
creepy]
Late 1990's - Played with Wrecking Crew, with Bill Holley on
guitar, Paul on bass, and Gary Hickerson on drums.
Terry's words of wisdom: "Critiquing from other people
only builds your character. If I point out something you
need to improve; you may not like me anymore but you'll be a
better musician for it."
